We pick you up in the morning at 9am and head for the vineyards of Luján de Cuyo, in the heart of
First we take you to Mendel, an old historical winery run by one of Argentina's most famous winemakers Roberto de la Motta. The vineyard's 100-year old vines produce excellent conentrated Malbec and we try the winery's top label Unus, rated 94-points by Robert Parker JR. Next we have a tasting at the modern Bodega Viña Cobos. The co-owner Paul Hobbs is an American winemaker credited with making Malbec the highly regarded varietal it is today. At midday we visit Club Tapiz, a wine lodge, winery and olive house. Here we have an incredible gourmet lunch where four wines are paired with four dishes. You will taste Mendoza's finest Sauvignon Blanc, as well as excellent Syrah and Malbec. We finish the day at Alta Vista, a traditional winery completely renovated and refurbished by a French wine family. We pick you up at 8.30am at your hotel and go west, climbing into dramatic mountain scenery. We follow the trail of the oldTrans-Andean railway as it snakes and tunnels its way through three mountain ranges. We pass the snow capped Cordón del Plataand turquoise Potrerillos lake. We follow the Rio Mendoza upriver through a valley called Seven Tunnels until we reach the mountain town ofUspallata. We continue our trip through mountain scenery made famous in the movie Seven Years in Tibet. The road passes through PenitentesSki Resort and continues west until several kilometres before the Chilean border, where we turn into AconcaguaNational Park. Here we take a short walk to Horcones pond and view the tallest mountain outside the Himalayas (weather permitting). On return we stop to see Puente Del Inca, a naturally formed bridge over a steep ravine. Here there is a small handicrafts market and hot spring complex. We continue down the mountains until we stop at Penitentes ski resort where we enjoy lunch at Ayelen Restaurant. Lunch is three courses of different options for each course. Sample menu: Mendocino style Empanadas, Steak, and Chocolate Marquise, all accompanied with fine wine. Return to Mendoza City 6pm.
